Kindrid
A sovereign-by-design name and kinship registry, built for First Nations.
Kindrid is a custom digital platform for First Nations to record, govern, and preserve their citizens' ancestral names, kinship, and clan affiliations, under their own data sovereignty.
Each participating Nation receives an independent deployment of Kindrid: its own database, its own hosting, its own governance. It runs under whatever name the Nation chooses for it.
Principles
- Sovereignty over data is absolute. All cultural and personal data in a Kindrid instance remains the property of the Nation and its citizens, aligned with OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession).
- Single-tenant by design. No shared infrastructure. No cross-Nation data flow.
- Kinship modelling reflects how a Nation actually reckons relationship (matrilineal, patrilineal, clan, moiety) rather than whatever fits a generic genealogy schema.
- Every record can be linked to the document, oral history, or elder testimony it came from.
What a deployment includes
- An ancestral name registry: Indigenous-language names with source citation, audio where available, and English notes.
- A kinship engine that respects the Nation's reckoning of relationship.
- Clan and moiety modelling with governance roles encoded.
- An authority model that respects clan elders and designated administrators.
- Citizen-facing browsing within the Nation, with privacy controls for sensitive records.
- A vision-assisted source-document ingestion pipeline for adding records from primary genealogical and ethnographic sources.
- A perpetual, irrevocable license to the platform with full source-code possession from day one — the Nation can run and modify its deployment through any developer, and continuity protections expand that license to full ownership if the original developer ever becomes unavailable.
How engagements work
Kindrid is custom-built and Nation-licensed. Each engagement is direct between the Nation's leadership and the developer. There is no subscription tier, no shared platform, and no public roster of participating Nations.
Inquiries from Nations interested in commissioning a deployment, or from people supporting that work, are welcome.
